David A. Liden is a Senior Associate Lawyer at Remedios Lawyers Law Corporation. After more than 19 years practising with Remedios & Company Law Corporation, David has decided to join Remedios Lawyers, where he continues his longstanding practice serving strata corporations, businesses, property managers, and individuals throughout British Columbia.
Called to the British Columbia Bar in 1981, David brings more than four decades of legal experience to the firm. He obtained his Bachelor of Laws from the University of Victoria in 1980, following a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Toronto in 1977. Prior to his years at UVic and UofT, he completed his First Degree and Second Degree at the University of Pau in France in 1973.
David’s practice is focused on strata property law, and he is widely experienced in every aspect of this area of the law. He advises strata corporations, strata management companies, strata lot owners, landlords, tenants, and commercial property owners on both residential and commercial strata matters. His work spans the full spectrum of strata property law, including governance, bylaw drafting and enforcement, annual and special general meetings, council governance, compliance, phased strata properties, shared facilities agreements, easements, disclosure obligations, and day-to-day operational advice.
David also has extensive experience acting for clients in complex strata disputes. He regularly represents clients in Civil Resolution Tribunal proceedings, the Supreme Court of British Columbia, and other dispute resolution processes involving governance disputes, bylaw enforcement, collections, construction deficiencies, owner and tenant issues, and other contentious strata matters. He has substantial experience negotiating, drafting, and advising on sophisticated agreements and transactions, allowing him to provide practical advice on both transactional and dispute-related matters.
Throughout his career, David has been actively involved in the legal and business communities. He served as a Director of HFBC Housing Foundation from 1995 to 2007 and as its President during that period. He also held leadership positions with the Vancouver Chapter of NAIOP (formerly the National Association of Industrial and Office Properties), serving as Chair of its Government Relations Committee and a member of its Executive Committee from 2006 to 2008, before becoming Legal Counsel and a member of the Executive Committee in 2009.
David has made significant contributions to legal education in British Columbia. He co-authored Investment Rules (with R. Keith Thompson) for the Continuing Legal Education Society of British Columbia’s Pension Plans II course in 1987. He authored the chapter Railway Mortgages and Rolling Stock Instruments in the Due Diligence Deskbook, including all updates through 2001. Since 2008, he has been the author of The Strata Lot chapter in the BC Strata Property Practice Manual, one of British Columbia’s leading reference texts on strata property law, and has continued to author its updates through 2024.
David is fluent in both English and French.
